Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was hailed as Miss Universe 2015

Filipinos from the different parts of the world rejoiced as the Philippines has finally grabbed the Miss Universe 2015 title after a series of runners-up in the previous years.

Miss Universe by the annual international beauty pageant, founded in 1952, which is joined by beautifully confident women from different countries in the world. This year, Philippines has made another history in such publicized beauty contest for owning the title in the person of Pia Wurtzbach.

Pia AlonzoWurtzbach, a 26-year old Filipina-German actress and model, is now a living epitome of how success is garnered. It was actually Pia’s third attempt of competing in the local national pageant, Binibining Pilipinas 2015 that gave her the privilege to join Miss Universe 2015 held in Las Vegas.

It was just last December 20, 2015 when Pia, bringing the banner of the Philippines, experiencing the best surprise of her life in the very stage of Miss Universe 2015. Awarded as the first runner-up in the said pageant after showing off her Filipina beauty, talent and intelligence, Pia her fellow contestants, including Miss Colombia – Ariadna Gutierez Arevalo, who was crowned the title at the moment, and the rest of the audience were silenced by the sudden announcement of the host about the mistake of the proclamations made.

According to The Guardian, the mortified host, Steve Harvey said, “OK, folks, I have to apologize. The First runner up-up is Colombia, Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines,” while Arevalo was waving to her fans, wearing the prestigious crown, and carrying the bouquet. As the two women stood in a very awkward moment, Harvey continued to explain that he read the card naming the winners in a wrong order, and that he was taking responsibility for the mistake. Thus, the former Miss Universe took the crown from Arevalo, and placed it on Pia. Harvey proclaimed right after that it was nonetheless a great night, as he wished that what happened would not be held against the ladies.

Although the controversy became the means for certain arguments to crop up actively in social media, it was nevertheless fulfilling to know that the title and the women competing for the crown were given justice despite the mistake.

This victory has just given everyone the enthusiasm to witness the newly crowned Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach, put to actions her advocacy, and the excitement for the next woman to be crowned Miss Universe in the succeeding years.
